We’re Back!

Hooray, we’re back for another amazing year at Ladybirds!

What a topsy turvy time we had last year - we are so proud of how brilliantly our community has handled the challenges and we head into the Autumn term with so much joy and optimism - we can’t wait to get playing and exploring!

Playing and Exploring

One of the Characteristics of Effective Learning is to play and explore, and what better time to develop this characteristic than at the start of a new school year.  We are so lucky to have such an adaptable setting,  there are always new activities to experience and enjoy, as well as exploring the outside environment through different seasons.

Getting to know you!

Our Autumn term is all about getting to know our new cohort of children, the way they like to play and the activities and topics that interest them.  Will we have a group of dinosaur or tractor lovers?  Will we be playing families and hairdressers or bug hunters and train drivers?  Will we love painting and playdough or potions and construction…or something completely new?  Even though we have many returning children, when the cohort changes, interests change too and we can’t wait to find out what excites and engages the class of 2022!

Getting to know us!

As well as us getting to know the children it’s a great term for them to get to know us!  We are so lucky to have a team who have such a range of interests and skills.   You will get to know your key person well throughout your time with us, but you will probably hear about the rest of the staff through your children!   One of the wonderful things about Ladybirds is that all the staff get to play with all the children so they will get to know all of us well.  From finding out our favourite foods at lunchtime, our favourite animals, stories and colours to which teachers love Christmas more than birthdays...we love to share our ideas and experiences with the children and hear their stories and opinions as they learn about listening, conversation, similarities and differences.

Getting to know families!

One amazing way you can help us with conversation starters is by sharing experiences you and your children have outside preschool with us through our learning journal - Tapestry!   Maybe you have a new pet, a new baby in the family, visited a new place or learned a new skill like riding a balance bike or doing a forward roll!  Maybe Grandma has run a marathon or Uncle Jim has painted his shed in rainbow colours...whatever is happening we’d like to know!  Check out this guide on how to upload an observation so we can make those links between school and home even stronger.

Getting to know Ladybirds!

As always, our focus on free flow play will allow the children to play and explore in all areas, and as they do they will learn all the rules and routines that come with being part of our community. If you haven’t already done so, why not head to our ‘meet the team’ page where you can also meet our clever critters who help us remember our Ladybirds rules!

We will also be encouraging the children to really get to know their preschool and notice what changes as we move from late summer to winter. Our fruit trees will produce apples and plums to try at the snack bar, the leaves will start to fall from the trees in the top garden, and we will go from sun cream to woolly hats before the term is out...learning different skills like putting our coats and gloves on!

Getting to know our community!

Although many of you reading this will be part of the Ladybirds community already, we would love to make more connections with local people, charities, organisations and businesses. Please do get in touch via our email or contact us page if you’d like to make a connection with us!
