We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum at Ladybirds and this underpins our ‘learning through play’ philosophy throughout your child’s time with us. All of our staff are trained to facilitate your child’s journey through the main areas of learning and development.
Early years learning concentrates on 7 areas split between prime and specific areas of learning.
The prime areas of learning are:
- communication and language
- physical development
- personal, social and emotional development
The specific areas of learning are:
- understanding the world
- expressive arts and design

Ladybirds pre-school recognises that parents and primary carers are the most important educators of their children. We aim to support you by developing your child’s potential at their own pace. Your child will be assigned a key-person who will be responsible for completing your child’s ‘Look What I Can Do’ learning journal and planning activities to facilitate their next stage of development. They will communicate directly with you regarding your child, through face to face consultations, informal meetings and written reports.
A range of equipment and opportunities, both indoors and outdoors, allow children to develop confidence in a fun environment. Careful planning goes into the activities provided to ensure opportunities for development in all areas are available, whilst the children enjoy the freedom of free choice play though the setting. Small group sessions concentrate on phonics and development in numeracy, as well as practising key speaking and listening skills.
